First 3 MonthsI spent my first three months on the Underwriting Academy in Glasgow, which provided a strong foundation across Hiscox’s core product lines, including Technology PI, Traditional PI, Emerging PI, Specialty Commercial (Property), Media PI, Cyber, and MLP (D&O). I achieved a UAL across all seven products.The Academy gave me a solid technical grounding, enabled me to gain my first Sales Passport, and allowed me to experience working in a new city while building strong relationships with colleagues across the business.First Rotation – Complex RenewalsI then completed a six-month rotation on the Complex Renewals team, applying the product knowledge gained on the Academy in a live underwriting environment. This period coincided with challenging trading conditions as the market softened.Despite this, I successfully renewed of business and achieved a persistence rate of 88%, which I was particularly proud of given the market conditions. I also cross-sold multiple product lines to existing customers, supporting retention and portfolio growth.Second Rotation – Contingency & EventsFor my second rotation, I spent nine months with the Hiscox Contingency and Events team. This required learning a new product line while also becoming involved in operational and strategic projects.I achieved a UAL in Contingency and Events and developed an initiative to utilise the Renewals team as part of the Events cross-sell strategy, helping to grow the Events book using existing internal relationships. I also supported improvements to the digital SME Events proposition, streamlining underwriting processes and reducing workload for the wider team, enabling them to focus on developing the book.
