ABOUT HENNING MARTIN-THOMSEN

Connecting Copenhagen and Chicago – and connecting architecture, urban design, communication, education, and leadership – I bring a career devoted to promoting and developing good design, working for both public, private, and non-profit organizations and through teaching and leadership in higher ed and study abroad.My educational background is a BA in Political Science, from the University of Aarhus, Institute of Political Science, a M.Arch professional degree from the School of Architecture in Aarhus, and an executive MBA, Master of Management Development, from the Copenhagen Business School, with a particular focus on strategy, leadership- and organizational development.• I have headed large scale strategic communications projects focusing on promoting architecture and design to both specialists and the public at large (Realdania Philanthropy, Danish Architecture Center, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, The Danish Architectural Press)• I have worked on major development projects promoting urban policy and sustainability (Byforum/Urban Forum in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, and Sustainable Cities at The Danish Architecture Centre, the Danish contribution to the Venice Architecture Biennial 2008). • I have led complicated transformation projects implementing new management structures and transforming existing organizations and/or departments (CEO of the Danish Association of Architects, and as Culture and Communications Manager at Gehl Architects).• And I have worked in education, in study abroad focusing on students from US based colleges and universities as both lecturer and studio faculty and for close to ten years as the Program Director for the Architecture and Design Program (AD) and Urban Studies (URB) with DIS – Study Abroad in Scandinavia based in Copenhagen. While with DIS I also concluded the International Education Diversity & Inclusion Certificate, Issued by Diversity Abroad, in 2019.As a practicing architect and senior consultant, I have worked on urban design and landscape projects with Gehl Architects, Schønherr, and Juul & Frost Architects, both in Denmark and abroad.I have written and lectured widely on architecture and urban design and worked on the ground in Denmark, Sweden, Germany, the UK, Italy, Poland, Romania, India, and the US.As a person, I am positive, energetic, and driven by curiosity.If these are skills and experiences that fit your organization, please reach out and let’s start a conversation.
