ABOUT MATTHEW HENDERSON
I work freelance through my company (Matthew Henderson Creative Ideas and Solutions) where I offer support and additional resource for organisations looking to enhance their visitor engagement and commercial strategy, specialising in product development. We offer support and solutions that are bespoke to your organisation from staff training and mentoring, through to full product development solutions where we work with your team to create immersive retail products and commercial experiences that truly reflect your venue. Clients include Birmingham Museum Trust, Black Country Living Museum, Visit County Durham, Lilidorei at The Alnwick Garden, Hopetown Darlington, Tullie House, Beamish Museum and Amgueddfa Cymru (Museum Wales). I also work on product development at Durham Cathedral who I represent on the board of the Association for Cultural Enterprises as a Trustee. Previously I was Head of Commercial Operations and Development at Beamish, The Living Museum of the North where I increased sales and developed immersive commercial activity across the museum. In this role I managed retail, food & beverage, photography and new developments such as accommodation. This work received industry recognition including Best Shop in the Museum and Heritage Awards (2022), the Pandemic Pivot Award in the Museum and Heritage Awards (2021) and Best Product in the Cultural Enterprise Awards (2020). I have been fortunate to receive personal recognition for my work including Overall Winner and Rising Star in the Cultural Enterprise Awards (2022), Visit England\'s Tourism Superstar (2015), Visit County Durham Tourism Superstar (2014) and a special recognition award from the Durham County Federation of Women\'s Institutes for a community outreach project. My background includes commercial development, visitor experience, engagement design/research, events, venue operations and staff and volunteer management.
