ABOUT HELEN JOHNSON
Hello! I\'m a video game specialist with a unique skillset of industry experience and high-level research skills acquired from working various positions in games and via my PhD. I studied the occupational community of video game developers - what is that? Well, in my first role in games I once sat having lunch with a menagerie of games professionals from across Liverpool. We were technically competitors but not acting like it. Bingo, that was what I wanted to study - what was that element that bonded game developers beyond the organisation, leading to my thesis \'Exploring Cultural Occupational Communality Through A Study of UK Video Game Developers and Their Mediated Community Spaces\'. Currently I\'m Senior Membership Officer at Ukie with my working day helping the UK games industry to continue being a global powerhouse. I lead on Ukie\'s Games Growth Programme accelerator and scale up - working with stakeholders Tencent and Department for Business and Trade. Refreshing the format, managing the budget, making it more globally focused, connecting cohorts with industry experts and curating longterm data tracking of studios post-programme. My day-to-day involves account and relationship management of members, event management from creation to execution, ideation, roadmapping and sponsorship generation of new activations (e.g. Games Insight Week, The Roundtable Series, Breakfast @ Develop, the upcoming \'Supercharged Sessions\' and more), leading Ukie\'s HR member group, reviewing and improving internal commercial and membership processes and assisting studios achieve their international trade goals (gamescom and GDC).If you need- Projects led with data driven approaches- Knowledge of all stages of game development, the teams involved and how the studio and its products fit within a global marketplace- Data transformed into a delivery method suitable for various stakeholders - dependant on their needs- Strategic thinking which arrives from working in business development, community management, research and social media- Management of multiple projects simultaneously- User centric approach to products and projects- Flexibility in processes and management style to mitigate change and problem solve-Strong interpersonal skills - both within the team and externally- Someone who can move between academic and industry knowledge-Someone who can yap for days about the concept of cosy games or Tomb Raider and Mass Effect lore. Then I\'m interested to hear where we may work together in the future.
