ABOUT HELEN OLDFIELD

Helen Oldfield is the BNY Group General Counsel, EMEA, leading a team of over 165 lawyers and legal services professionals based across London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Dublin, Brussels, Luxembourg, Frankfurt, Amsterdam and Wroclaw. Her responsibilities include oversight of legal risk management for the EMEA region across all lines of business, and co-ordination for the EMEA region of all corporate center legal functions, Public Policy & Government Affairs, Office of Regulatory Relations and Company Secretariat functions. Helen is advisor to BNY’s legal entities and branches based in the EMEA region. She serves as a member of the International Leadership Team and the International Legal Leadership Council. Prior to joining BNY in 2019, Helen worked at the Bank of England. She has three decades’ experience across law firm, investment banking, wealth management and central banking. From 2004 to 2018, Helen was Managing Director and the Global General Counsel of Barclays Wealth (20••••18) and the Global Head of Marco Legal at Barclays Investment Bank (to 2014). From 2002 to 2004, Helen was a Director at Merrill Lynch and from to 2002, Helen was a Vice President at Credit Suisse. Helen began her legal career with Allen & Overy working in each of London and in Hong Kong. Helen represents BNY on the CityUK Leadership Council and on the UK Finance General Counsels group. Helen is the EMEA executive sponsor of BNY’s diverse abilities resource group, HEART, which raises awareness and leverages the talent of employees with diverse abilities to help build an inclusive culture and accessible environment at BNY. She is also the EMEA executive sponsor of the firm’s relationship with The Sutton Trust, the UK charity that champions social mobility through programmes, research and policy influence. Helen is the senior sponsor of BNY Legal Department’s Community Outreach Programme. Helen received a B.A. from the University of Durham, postgraduate legal qualifications (CPE and LPC) from the College of Law (York) and qualified as a chartered Company Secretary in 2019.
