ABOUT HELEN HOWLETT

I am a Principal Nuclear Safety Engineer, and a Chartered Physicist, with over ten years of experience in the production and justification of safety cases at both civil and defence nuclear licensed sites. I am a determined and enthusiastic individual with great abilities to logically solve problems. I quickly learn new skills and strive to understand as much as I can about something. These characteristics are demonstrated through the work I have completed in the nuclear industry. My determination enabled me to successfully arrange and Chair a HAZOP 1 for a client on a project I was not familiar with, with an inexperienced HAZOP Secretary who I mentored, and with less than two weeks’ notice. My enthusiasm and the technical ability I had shown, while seconded to a client team, convinced senior engineers and safety assessors to allow me to Chair my first half day HAZOP whilst still a relatively inexperienced assistant assessor. My ability to learn new skills and my desire to constantly improve my knowledge and understanding empowered me to start on a project taking minutes of ONR intervention meetings and leave the project a year and a half later as the lead safety case engineer for one area of a new build nuclear facility.
