ABOUT HELEN COX
For two years, I volunteered with ChopArt, an incredible arts non-profit which works with children and teens experiencing homelessness. Every week, I created curriculum and lead sessions at My Sister\'s House. I saw so much trauma come through my students\' artwork and also through our conversations together. It made me recognize that I wanted to work directly with children in the education system as a school counselor. Every experience, from my Wednesday nights at My Sister\'s House to my union and non-profit career working in diverse communities across the country, has lead me right where I belong, as a school counselor.My mission as a school counselor is to contribute positively to the academic, social/ emotional, and career development of all students within my school. I believe that every child has unique skills and abilities which can prepare them for success. At the same time, they also face systemic and personal challenges. Shoulder-to-shoulder with teachers, staff, parents, and students, I aim to be an integral part of the team that makes our schools and communities truly great.
