ABOUT HEIDI TAO YANG
As Managing Director of Hot Docs, Heidi helps translates the organization’s vision into clear operational priorities, strengthens festival and program standards, expands Hot Docs’ profile nationally and internationally, and deepens engagement with key stakeholders. Previously, as Director of Funds & Labs, she oversaw the disbursement of more than $4 million in funding to filmmakers from diverse backgrounds. She has executive produced 15 short films for Hot Docs, including seven for the second series of Citizen Minutes - a collection of Canadian social impact documentaries now streaming on Crave and CBC Gem - and eight for Roads to Regeneration, a series that highlights individuals around the world working toward sustainable and equitable futures. In her previous role, Heidi designed and launched the inaugural Hot Docs Incubator, a Netflix-supported program created to support documentary filmmakers in developing their creative vision and market potential. When time allows, she enjoys reading and seeking out semi-strenuous hikes.
