About Heide Estes

Environmental activism, with a strong emphasis on social justice, informs my scholarship and my \"real life.\" I regularly lecture on \"Climate Change: What Can We Do?\" helping people understand how they can connect with people in their jobs and communities to make change. My book, Anglo-Saxon Literary Landscapes: Ecotheory and the Environmental Imagination, argues that the attitudes that shaped human engagements with the environment enabled later industrial revolution and, eventually, climate crisis; to make change, we need to dig deep into our cultural assumptions about the earth\'s resources and our use of them. As an editor of the scholarly journal Medieval Ecocriticisms, my goal is to help others develop and publish work that investigates how medieval people understood their environment and their roles and responsibilities with respect to it. I have also lectured and published on Jews, gender, and disability in early medieval England.
