About Hector Diaz
PhD Scientist with animal science, microbiology, nutrition science, anaerobic fermentation and quality assurance knowledge. I have experience as a Scientist for Procter and Gamble as well as experience as a Research Assistant in the Animal Nutrition Laboratory at the Agricultural Experimental Station at the University of Puerto Rico. I have conducted research that has provided preliminary data to support research funded by the United States Department of Agriculture National Research Initiative (USDA-NRI) entitled ‘Mechanisms coordinating protozoal growth and recycling: toward improved efficiency of protein usage in the rumen’ (Competitive grant, 20••••11, Firkins and Yu, OSU). My education at the University of Puerto Rico and The Ohio State University increased my ability for statistical analysis and my experience as a scientist for Procter and Gamble reinforced my abilities in experimental design to assess new materials or improve existing ones in pet food as well as the use of statistical analysis data to give recommendations that led to product improvement. In addition, I led, coordinated and executed changes in pet food formulas using new materials. I also have experience designing and conducting experiments using in vitro, in situ, dual flow fermentations, and other anaerobic culturing techniques that has provided me with the fundamental knowledge to develop future research on the improvement of nutrients utilization and efficiency, anaerobic microbial physiology and the use of organic materials from industrial processes as an alternative to reduce industrial wastes and produce animal feed.
