ABOUT HEATHER HEATHER MCELWAIN UNTHANK

I have been an educator for 10+ years. Many of my skills as a teacher are transferable to a large variety of positions, but I will readily admit that there are things I haven’t mastered. However, lack of experience shouldn’t rule me out as a candidate; in fact, my assortment of skills make me an excellent candidate, no matter the position. Because I am an educator, I am used to learning new things quickly. You will hear teachers say they are lifelong learners, and it’s the truth! I genuinely love to learn, which is evident by my three degrees: Bachelor of Arts in English and Theatre & Dance: Musical Theatre; Master of Education in Secondary Education: English; and Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction. I would continue to collect degrees if I could avoid accumulating debt. Therefore, if there is something I need to know to successfully perform the duties of my position, I will learn it. If I can’t figure it out on my own, I will ask for guidance. I will gladly attend training when it is necessary.I am also extremely flexible and used to working in a fast-paced environment, filled with distractions and the unexpected. Have you ever arrived at work to discover the internet is down? What about a blackout? Both of these scenarios have happened during this school year. With 30-40 students (per class period) either already in my room, or on their way, I am responsible for their education. I can\'t give up, and let them run amuck. Instead, I dig into my tool belt so my students accomplish relevant tasks to reach their academic goals. My lessons didn’t go as planned, but I adapted, and the students were able to successfully complete their tasks, even if it was by the flashlight on their cellphones. While this specific scenario may not apply to the positions at your company, they do demonstrate that I will work towards and accomplish my responsibilities, no matter the obstacles I may face.I have ambition and grit, love a challenge, and enjoy the ebb and flow of life. I embrace change, as it often leads to growth. I am constantly working to better myself through personal and professional development and reflection. I am highly technologically proficient, an expert in building collaborative relationships, and I thrive in designing dynamic presentations that capture and hold the attention of an audience.
