About Heather Sandstrom
I am a developmental scientist by training and have nearly two decades of experience conducting social policy research and evaluations. I specialize in child care and early education and two-generation programs that support the well-being of low-income children and families. My research specifically targets policies related to early childhood home visiting, Head Start, the Child Care and Development Block Grant, and state prekindergarten and early learning programs. I am skilled in fundraising from the federal government and philanthropic foundations, managing federal contracts, designing and executing complex research studies, collecting and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data, supervising research staff at both junior and senior levels, and disseminating research to policymakers and practitioners. I most enjoy the creative process involved in study design and identifying solutions to policy-relevant issues affecting children, families, and service providers.
