As the first dedicated research administrator at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, I serve as the college\'s embedded expert on federal regulations, sponsor requirements, and institutional policy — working within Virginia Tech\'s broader research administration ecosystem to support faculty across the full grant lifecycle.I manage a growing portfolio of proposals and active awards across a range of federal and private sponsors, coordinating with faculty, the Office of Sponsored Programs, IRB, OESRC, and other university and external units to keep submissions and awards on track.To date, I have developed college-level procedures and policies, delivered training sessions for faculty and staff on proposal development and compliance, and provide ongoing advising to faculty and the finance team on regulatory requirements and sponsor expectations. The role requires staying current on a rapidly shifting federal funding environment and translating that landscape into clear, actionable guidance for faculty focused on their research.
