Manages self-insurance, external insurance, and claims handling programs in the USA and Canada. Directs, develops, and leads risk management strategies to ensure the best possible support to operating divisions. Provides leadership, vision, and direction for Risk Management that support and protect the company’s business objectives and requirements. This includes a team of employees and a third-party claims management operation of ~90 persons. Functions as a senior advisor to leadership and operational teams on issues that have risk/safety implications and provides guidance to Safety, Operations, Legal, HR and other internal resources on policy and financial implications of claims. Manages the design and placement of the insurance programs, including consideration of the optimum balance between self-insurance and external insurance. Executes the appointment of insurance brokers and other advisors. Negotiates with insurers to minimize the amount of collateral required. Develops and executes claims management strategies. President of the National Insurance and Indemnity Corporation. Reports directly to the CEO of First Student and leads the Safety and Risk Board Committee.
