About Heather Harris Wright
I’m a senior research leader, professor, and clinician with a passion for building strong, collaborative research ecosystems, elevating research impact, and growing collaborative capacity. I currently serve as Associate Dean for Research for both the College of Allied Health Sciences and the College of Nursing at East Carolina University—North Carolina’s largest colleges in their respective disciplines. In this dual role, I oversee strategic research development and faculty success programming across diverse health disciplines to grow external funding and impact.I’ve launched strategic initiatives including ECU’s initial multi-college research administrative hub, implemented research investment programs for faculty, and helped drive record-setting funding growth for my two Colleges. My own research focuses on cognitive-communication changes in aging and acquired neurological disorders. I have secured NIH and foundation funding, published and presented extensively on aphasia, discourse, and aging, and served on over 40 grant review panels. I am a Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and a 2023–24 APLU Council on Research Leaders Fellow—honors that reflect my commitment to research, mentorship, and academic leadership.
