ABOUT HEATHER HANCOCK
Armed with new facts and a catchy “Tropical Rainforest” rap, I ran home from my 3rd grade assembly and accosted my mom with, “The rainforests are dying, but *we* can save them!” Though my grasp of the environmental situation was naïve at that time, my core belief in the power of a committed community has only deepened over the years. I am passionate about making the world a healthier place—for people, wildlife, and ecosystems—and I love bringing diverse groups of people together to creatively solve complex problems. I build trusted relationships, facilitate dialogue, and guide action with strategic vision. My strong systems thinking skills enable me to see connections that foster more holistic understanding of challenges and stimulate innovative solutions. But I don’t get stuck in the big picture. Uniquely blending high-level strategy with project management skills, I can track operational details while ensuring alignment with overarching goals. The past 18 years I have loved working on the design, implementation, and monitoring of social and behavior change programs (a skillset I see as infinitely transferrable). I can identify structural, social, and behavioral factors that inhibit or facilitate desired outcomes, and design programs to address those factors. Here are a few work projects that have gotten me especially excited in recent years: • Innovating new solutions to age-old problems like how to provide person-centered care • Uniting previously siloed practitioners around a common goal and learning agenda • Applying social and behavior change approaches to novel areas such as climate change and self-care • Developing groundbreaking frameworks that advance practice and expand mental models • Reimaging capacity strengthening efforts for the public health workforce • Encouraging systems thinking and empathy in our work with healthcare providers Specialities: Workforce development, health systems strengthening, training, leadership, curriculum development, provider behavior change, human centered design, change management, strategic communication, project management, team management, facilitation. I’d love to collaborate with you to make this world a kinder, better place, so feel free to reach out!
