About Heather Ferrell

Heather Ferrell brings more than 20 years of progressive curatorial, educational, and arts leadership experience working in art centers and museums. She is a passionate advocate for contemporary art in the community, and believes in the intrinsic role of art in the exchange of meaningful ideas and in nurturing a vibrant, engaged society. Over the course of her career, Ferrell has curated or organized over 40 original exhibitions of contemporary and modern art including Extra-Ordinary: Works by Charles Gill, Pat Steir: Waterfall Paintings, A Changing Fabric: Hildur Bjarnadóttir, Nick Cave, Jessica Rankin, Jil Weinstock, Stephanie Wilde: Harmed, Suburban/Domestic: The Nature of Love and Family, and A Leader’s Legacy: Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani. Ferrell’s regional and international experience has been invaluable in developing her expertise as a creative curator and artistic collaborator who brings art and audiences together through dynamic exhibitions and programs. Born in Boise, Idaho, and a graduate of Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio, Ferrell has held curatorial and leadership positions at several art centers and museums.Heather Ferrell officially joined Burlington City Arts on October 3, 2016. She is eager to work with Vermont’s artist community and begin defining a multi-year program of exhibitions and related activities for BCA that connect community with contemporary art in dynamic, thought-provoking ways.
