ABOUT HEATHER FARLEY
Accomplished, innovative, and systems-focused physician executive transforming healthcare delivery through bold, enterprise-level change. I bring 20+ years of clinical and operational leadership experience — from establishing Delaware’s first freestanding emergency department to launching a continuous improvement operating system and building one of the most comprehensive health system well-being infrastructures in the country.Over the past decade, I’ve served as the inaugural Chief Well-Being Officer at both ChristianaCare and the Medical University of South Carolina, where I built and operationalized enterprise-wide strategies to reduce burnout, improve professional satisfaction, and embed well-being into the fabric of operations. I launched one of the nation’s first peer support programs, designed integrated well-being strategies from the ground up, and drove lasting culture change across complex health systems. Now, as Vice President of Professional Satisfaction at the American Medical Association, I guide national strategy for initiatives like the Joy in Medicine® Recognition Program and the Organizational Biopsy®, advancing large-scale transformation to radically improve professional satisfaction for physicians and care teams. This work is about more than individual resilience — it’s about redesigning the systems and environments in which care is delivered. We’re focused on removing the structural obstacles that erode purpose and joy, and creating conditions where physicians and care teams can do their best work, feel valued, and thrive.
