About Heath Lundy
Ever since reaching Chapter 10: “Management of Human Resources” in my textbook Understanding Business, Tenth Edition for my Business 101 class, there was no turning back. Marketing was fine, accounting was a mystery, but HR - woah! I read those chapters twice and then went and found other books and articles about HR. There was something so intriguing about why HR was so underrated. I mean, a business cannot operate without its people, right? So why not take the time to engage, study and enhance their experience as an employee of your company to ensure that they are at their best? Shouldn\'t anyone be able to easily see how the employment experience correlates with performance and productivity? Oh, boy. College-sophomore-Heath was so ready to take on the HR world by storm, which is not much different than I am now, just with less naïveté. Now, I\'m constantly honing my skills and adding to my knowledge base. If I don\'t know the answer to a question, I will most certainly find it. Something that I\'ve come to realize is that there is a large space between what we are required to do (by law) and what is considered best practice in HR. This originally took me by surprise but intrigued me even more about the laws and regulations surrounding the work that I do on a regular basis. I feel like this is a meaningful realization for my career and learning about these laws and regulations during my masters program makes me a better HR professional. Other than HR, my passions include learning, writing, and southern businesses, especially those local to or based out of coastal/south Louisiana.
