About Mark Hawthorne

Currently a Software Engineer at General Dynamics Mission Systems. As a graduate of their Engineering Leadership Program, I have pursued a Masters of Science in Computer Science at WPI and have participated in rotations within the Systems Engineering and Software Engineering disciplines.Previously, I have had an internship working on a music delivery system for cell phones with software engineers at Livewire Mobile inc. For my senior capstone project (MQP) at WPI, I worked with two other students to assist engineers from Boston Engineering on their Biomimetic-In-Oil-Swimmer platform. We helped to drive design specifications, contact outside vendors, and perform additional research.During my undergraduate career I held numerous positions of leadership in my extracurricular activities which spanned a number of different tasks, such as planning and running campus-wide programs for hundreds of students. I also juggled several part-time jobs, such as being a Resident Advisor to between 60 and 100 first-year students, managing the employees of the on-campus bowling alley, and acting as a resource to students in introductory robotics engineering classes.As for goals, I aim to gain industry experience in several different areas, and work towards a team leader role where I can put my management and leadership skills to the test.
