Software Engineer ApprenticeAs part of the DevOps team at SEEMiS, I contribute across the full software development lifecycle, working on the organisation’s core product that supports schools across Scotland. My responsibilities include: • Front-end development: Designing and building screens and user interfaces using Java Swing. • Middle-tier development: Creating and maintaining web services to connect business logic with data. • Back-end development: Writing and optimizing queries and data access objects (SQL, DAOs) to ensure efficient database operations. • Agile teamwork: Actively participating in sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, and code reviews, contributing to collaborative development practices. • Testing and quality assurance: Writing and executing tests, debugging code, and ensuring system reliability. • Documentation: Producing technical documentation and user guides to support ongoing development and knowledge sharing. • Collaboration: Working closely with senior devs, managers and testers to deliver high-quality features aligned with user requirements. • Continuous learning: Gaining hands-on experience with modern development tools and workflows while studying toward industry-recognised qualifications.
