ABOUT HARVINDER VIRK
Dr Harvinder Virk is an NIHR Clinical Lecturer in Respiratory Sciences at the University of Leicester, UK. His research focuses on identifying and overcoming barriers to the reliable translation of biomedical research, with particular emphasis on improving outcomes for patients with interstitial lung diseases. He is the Leicester Deputy Lead for the MRC-AIM Doctoral Training Partnership.He co-leads the Only Good Antibodies (OGA) team and its linked programmes — Better Antibodies, Better Science, and Better Patient Outcomes — which develop and share reproducible research tools and reference materials. These initiatives help scientists and clinicians choose high-quality reagents and thereby generate more trustworthy data and diagnostics.Dr Virk also co-leads the UK branch of the YCharOS (antibody characterisation) consortium with Dr Michael Biddle, creating open, standardised validation datasets in partnership with academia and industry. His wider goal is to build the infrastructure and incentives that make good scientific practice feasible, easy, and rewarded.He is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians and sits on the Supervisory Board of the UK Reproducibility Network. He previously held an MRC Clinical Research Training Fellowship and is currently an MRC New Investigator (Better Methods, Better Research).
