ABOUT HARVEER SRAIN

I am currently working with Triton Environmental as Environmental Professional focussing on amphibian salvage, water quality monitoring (WQM) and fish salvage on Coastal link Project (CGL) and West Path Project. I worked with Black Fly Environmental conducting WQM and amphibian salvage on CGL project in the summer of 2022. The amphibians salvaged included Salamanders, Wood Frogs, Western Toads, and Columbian Spotted frogs. Also, conducted Angler survey on three lakes in Fox Creek, AB, focusing on fish species, including Northern pike, Walleye, and Largemouth bass Previously worked with Sackville Rivers Association (SRA), for river and habitat restoration, and clean-up projects, including life cycle and migration routes of Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar), Gaspereau (Alosa pseudoharengus), and American eel (Anguilla rostrata). Also, worked on the protection of water quality and reducing downstream flooding of Sandy Lake, Sackville River, associated tributaries, and wetlands. My professional certifications include Indigenous Awareness Course, Boater Safety Course, Swiftwater Safety Rescue Awareness, Trans Mountain Expansion Project Environment Level II Training, and Bear Awareness Training. I am also certified with Backpack Electrofishing from NRTG and Environmental Professional in-training (EPt) from ECO Canada. Further, I am a registered Biologist in Training (BIT) with the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists (ASPB) as well as The College of Applied Biology in British Columbia. I have more than three years of experience as an ecotoxicological studies researcher in assessing the potential effects of pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) on aquatic species. My area of research focuses on examining the sublethal and lethal effects of PPCPs in identified (n=137) aquatic species. Further, I have experience in preparing an environmental impact statement (EIS) for the construction of a gold mine at Peggy’s Cove, Nova Scotia. I also completed a project in partnership with Ecology Action Centre to find out the most successful approaches for implementing eminently feasible coastal adaptation strategies in Nova Scotia. I participated in Canadian Ecotoxicity Workshop (CEW) 2021 and presented a poster presentation on “Pharmaceuticals and personal care products and their sublethal and lethal effects on aquatic organisms.” I graduated with Master of Environmental Studies (MES) from Dalhousie University in Canada. I also hold Bachelor in Pharmacy (B.Pharm) from India.
