ABOUT HARRY BARNETT
I am an aspiring barrister, studying the Barristers Training Course LLM at Nottingham Law School. I have been awarded the Sir Dingle Foot Scholarship from Gray\'s Inn to assist with completion of this course, as well as an NLS Professional Courses Academic Excellence Scholarship.I have recently completed my Law LLB at NLS, for which I received a 2:1 with honours. This includes first-class grades in four modules (Family, Human Rights, Trusts, and Immigration & Asylum Law). I\'ve had the privilege of volunteering with the fully regulated law firm on campus, NLS Legal; representing multiple clients at welfare tribunals proved a highlight of my undergraduate years. I was given the Dean\'s Award for Contribution to the Community in the 2024/25 academic year, and selected to deliver the customary student vote of thanks before my cohort at graduation. In future I wish to secure a pupillage in London, or the Midlands - with the eventual aim being to build a mixed family and public law practice in chambers. I am eagerly seeking work experience, mini-pupillages, and other opportunities in these areas. In practice, I would be particularly passionate about pro bono work/increasing access to justice, and amplifying the voices of LGBTQ+ people in the legal profession. I look forward to building upon my skills and gaining greater insight into life at the Bar through participation in Bridging The Bar\'s Academy programme over the next academic year. I have sharpened my legal awareness and advocacy skills through opportunities both within university and in the real world, from participating in mooting competitions both within university, and against students from across the UK, to providing free legal advice on a voluntary basis to clients at the local Citizens Advice Bureau. I have completed multiple mini-pupillages, in multiple practice areas, to gain practical awareness of life at the Bar.To support my studies, I work part-time, in a supervisory role, as a Bar Shift Leader at Nottingham Trent Students\' Union. Additionally, I work several student-facing roles through Unitemps and help to promote NLS and NTU at open days. As part of the Student Content Collective, I contribute to the university brand through social media, participation in trends, and promotion of the student experience.Outside of the professional sphere, I am passionate about film and literature. I am also an experienced musician, having been part of choirs since childhood and having attained multiple ABRSM qualifications in piano and organ.
