ABOUT HARRY OLSON
I’m a multidisciplinary design and strategy leader with 15+ years of experience shaping how people connect with place, outdoor recreation, and public services. My career spans private-sector environmental design, public-sector transformation, and community trail advocacy — all rooted in a commitment to strengthening recreation, sustainability, and the stories that define our landscapes.I started in wayfinding, signage, and exhibit design, collaborating with architects, interior designers, and governments to bring history, identity, and placemaking into the built environment. My work evolved into environmental and climate initiatives — accelerating \"Design for Good\" and supporting programs that help communities thrive. Now, as a senior user experience designer with the BC Ministry of Environment and Parks, I lead multidisciplinary teams across parks, conservation, and climate portfolios. I specialize in navigating complex systems, building cross-government partnerships, and translating public needs into strategy, policy, and improved services. My work has supported major initiatives including BC Parks modernization, CleanBC’s climate programs, and evidence-driven approaches to public engagement, accessibility, and outdoor participation.Beyond government, I serve as Vice President of the Nanaimo Mountain Bike Club, where I champion trail advocacy, community partnerships, volunteer engagement, and the stewardship work that supports sustainable outdoor recreation.
