About Harrison Huston
I am currently a Computer Science Major at Stevens Institute of Technology with an expected graduation date in December 2024. In my studies I have gained experience with the C, C++, Java, Python, SQL, Erlang, Groovy, Racket, and ARM Assembly programming languages. I have taken classes in Agile Methodologies, Algorithms, Systems Programming, Database Management Systems, Concurrent Programming, and Operating Systems. I am presently working as a Course Assistant for the Algorithms and Database Management Systems courses at Stevens Institute of Technology. I am one of 13 and 5 CAs, respectively, who are helping to facilitate the education of over 350 students taking these courses. I host office hours and lab sessions each week in order to provide opportunities for students to ask questions about their assignments or to receive supplemental lessons about concepts that are taught in lectures. This past summer I worked as an intern at United Parcel Service (UPS), as a member of their Infrastructure Automation team. Over the course of the summer, I saw an automation project through from start to finish. The goal was to provide automation scripts for the PCDM team, in order to reduce the labor cost of initializing application development environments. After discussing and documenting requirements with the PCDM team, a series of scripts in Javascript, YAML, and Python, were created in order to pass information from a ServiceNow Catalog to a Python script running on an Azure DevOps Server virtual machine. Then, a python script was used to initialize a new repository in Azure DevOps -with attached build and release pipelines, a new workspace in Terraform Cloud, and new testing environments in Google Cloud Platform, The project resulted in an 86% time reduction for the creation of these systems for application teams at UPS. In the summer of 2023 I joined the Merck IT Emerging Talent program as an intern on their Content Management Team. With my colleagues on the team, I participated in daily meetings to plan the course of project development for the team and in frequent meetings with over 10 teams to organize the migration of over documents from a legacy store site to an updated storage system. Additionally, I was able to develop a reporting system that used SQL queries that were updated at runtime using Javascript so that users were able to search for documents in the new database based on the document title, approval date, status, location, and workflow.
