The IMPROVER post processing system can blend any ensemble NWP data together to provide a blended probabilistic weather forecast. The current blending process is very simple – weighted sum of input, weights vary by lead time, weights are fixed. The aim of this project is to know if we could increase accuracy of forecast by-Adding AI model outputs to the blend alongside physical models-Altering the blending process – for example introducing machine learning to weight the blend rather than using simple linear methods.
