ABOUT HARPREET BASRA

Awarded Kent Primary School Teacher of the year and school leader award 2023. I have had the pleasure of teaching in every year group from year 1-6. I am passionate about promoting progress and allowing every pupil irrespective of their background and needs to have the best possible education to drive their learning forward. I ensure every day that high expectations are set and that children enjoy their learning and feel safe in a school environment and that there is a solid structure for their day and that pupils know exactly what their day entails, as well as setting up work stations and visual time tables for pupils with high need provision or an EHCP. In addition to this, I am leading science across the school and have supported staff members across the whole school to promote the progress within this subject and how to be Ofsted ready for initial deep-dives. Although I lead this subject, I am always cooperating with my colleagues to ensure that the whole school curriculum/every subject is supported and ensuring all staff are fully confident with all subjects using a cross-curricular approach. My versatility and ability to have taught in all year groups from year 1-6 has allowed me to understand that all pupils have different needs and that their work should be differentiated fully in order for them to access all areas of their learning. I believe that every child should have the opportunity to enjoy their school experience. I have also been running extra-curricular clubs, which have included sports and dance to allow pupils to explore a range of clubs and build on skills outside of the classroom too. Behaviour management strategies is also a skill that I have developed and feel fully confident with. I have worked with many challenging classes. I have worked 1:1 with some high profile pupils with poor home life and the outcomes have been very positive as they are now thriving in school. Safeguarding and ensuring pupil safety is paramount. I have previously had disclosures made by pupils, which have been followed up effectively using the school procedure and protocols with the DSL. This has been highlighted as my ability to build effective working relationships with pupils, and that they feel safe enough to talk to me if and when they have an issue affecting them. I have a wide range of ICT skills to support within school & I ensure the school social media is supported with regular updates for parents.
