About Harish Sarma Krishnamoorthy
I am an Senior Member with 5 years of industrial work experience in electrical/electronics product design, research and development. I completed PhD in Electrical Engineering (power electronics) at Texas A&M University and I am currently working as Associate Professor in the ECE department of University of Houston, specializing in power engineering! Until June 2017, I worked in Schlumberger as Electrical Engineer for downhole wireline tools, primarily high temperature power supplies and inverters.I commenced my professional career as an Engineer at GE Energy in power and analog electronics design. There I designed electronics modules for smart electricity meters for the ANSI and IEC markets. I received hands-on experience in designing industry-grade DC-DC converters including buck, flyback, boost, etc. I also have experience in handling EMI/EMC issues for low power applications including PCB layout techniques.I gained experience in research, design and testing of higher power electronics through graduate work at Texas A&M as well as summer internships at Ford Research, Schlumberger REMS and Google Inc. I acquired varied skill sets in power electronics including converter design, modulation schemes, control strategies and semiconductor device characterization of AC-DC, DC-AC and AC-AC converters as well as certain micro-controller/FPGA systems. I developed industry level insight on Smart Grid and distributed energy technologies such as Solar PV, Wind, battery energy storage, etc. I also have Lean - Six Sigma Green Belt certification and proficiency in using various Six Sigma tools. Beyond hardware systems, I have intermediate level experience in software engineering.Specialties- Technical: Electronics design, Lean & Six Sigma.Softwares: C, C++, MATLAB, PSIM, Cadence 6, Altium designer.Specific ICs : TI-Piccolo/Delfino Teridian 71M6533/6521 Metering ICs, Altera FPGAStandards: ANSI C12.18/19, IEC 62052, 62053, 62054.
Experience
Associate Professor (Tenured)
Aug 2023 — Present
Since Fall-2017, I have been working at the University of Houston (Main Campus). Currently, I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE). My specialization is in power & energy. Major areas of research/teaching focus are: Statistical / machine learning approaches for converter modeling and their health prediction Power converters for RF applications such as 4G/5G communication, RADAR, and NMR Solid state transformers (SSTs) and control for utility grid integration of renewable energy sources (wind, solar, etc.), data centers, electric vehicles, energy storage, and drives High power density converters for applications in extreme environments such as aviation, subsea and downhole energy extraction, and space power supplies
