About Dan Hanson
Started with and have grown with the personal computer era. Began building systems and writing code in school. Turned that into a business which still exists today, Magnum Computers Inc.But as times changed and hardware and programming became more of a commodity, we began specializing in network connectivity, security, etc.I first got online in 1983 (yes, 1983 that’s not a typo) so as hardware, software, plumbing and tools made the Internet the future I began incorporating that into Magnum.Seeing that millions of non-techies were getting on-line, often without a clear destination, we decided to narrow the overwhelming broadness of the Internet with sites focused by geography and demographic. In 2001 we launched ClevelandSeniors.com for the 50 and over crowd and it now gets over 2.5 million hits per month and visitors stay on almost 20 minutes per visit.Similarly ClevelandWomen.Com, for women of all age, is growing and our recent venture at ClevelandPeople.com, for the 100+ ethnic communities in the region, is poised to really take off.In my 10 plus years as columnist and technology editor at Inside Business Magazine I was sometimes frustrated with the lead time that a monthly print publication demands. So GreatLakesGeek.com was born to deliver timely information on business, tech and science – using Web 2.0 tools such as podcasts and video. It also includes a Speakers\' Bureau that has proven to be very popular. We see great potential in serving specific demographics that reside on the Long Tail.Specialties: I’ve been a Microsoft MVP (Server – Networking) for many years and can still do all the hardware and software stuff that launched Magnum 20 years ago. But my ventures into Web 2.0 and expertise with those tools have been of recent interest. I’ve given countless speeches and presentations on various technical topics as well.
