ABOUT HANNIBAL EL-MOHTAR
Hannibal El-Mohtar is an international trade lawyer. Licensed in New York & Ontario, Hannibal appeared before the Canadian International Trade Tribunal on international trade cases, the investment review division on foreign direct investment matters, and the competition bureau on competition matters. He assists clients in the steel, clean energy, construction, and health industries with their trade and trade compliance needs. Hannibal served thirteen years in the Reserve and Regular forces of the Canadian Armed Forces, retiring as a legal officer in the JAG Branch. Overlapping with his reserve service, Hannibal was an associate with McMillan LLP practicing foreign investment and international trade law. Prior to joining McMillan, Hannibal was a foreign lawyer at a large commercial Chinese law firm in Beijing, where he advised financial clients with commercial arbitration disputes and Chinese clients operating in the US on competition class action defence and transnational jurisdictional discovery. He also advised foreign and Chinese clients on international antitrust advocacy, sanctions, and international asset tracing and recovery. Hannibal holds an LL.M from Peking University and a dual BCL/LLB from McGill University\'s Faculty of Law. While at McGill\'s Faculty of Law in Montreal, Hannibal was Editor-in-Chief of the McGill Journal of Sustainable Development Law (MJSDL). Prior to law school, Hannibal studied Political Science at the University of Ottawa (Summa Cum Laude).
