I believe recruiting is an art form.I’m a first-generation college graduate whose parents told me getting a job would be easy with a 4-year degree….and unfortunately, they were wrong. I quickly learned that having a degree doesn’t get you a job if you don’t know how to write a resume or you’re not the best interviewer. This experience is the main reason I decided to pursue a career in recruiting. I think the recruiting process is a bit backward. Why are companies requiring candidates to be great resume writers and interviewers if those skills have nothing to do with the role they\'re trying to fill! Instead, recruiters and hiring managers should be trained on how to identify top talent without requiring the talent to be the best interviewer or resume writer. I promise you\'ll find a lot more ‘unicorns’ with this approach.I spent my first 4 years doing agency recruiting and I loved the fast-paced environment. However, I transitioned to in-house recruiting in 2019 to be more involved in DEI initiatives and programs. Since then, I have been focused on removing biases from the interview process by leading interviewer training classes and implementing structured interview processes. In addition to my DEI work, I have been leading sourcing teams and dabbling as a Scrum Master.
