ABOUT HANNAH MERTEN
I believe in the power of place-based investments to expand economic opportunity for all. In my career I aspire to be a ‘citybuilder,’ in other words, a leader well versed in the many intersecting fields of urban development: including real estate and urban planning, economic development, workforce development and education, infrastructure, and the politics that make it all possible. With gratitude to several of my many teachers- Growing up in Denver while Denver itself was growing into a boomtown showed me that rapid growth and urban change can be positive and painful at the same time- My academic background in international studies, Spanish, and sustainability taught me to contextualize problems as part of global systems, and think about solutions at micro and macro scales- My experience as a business analyst pushed me to balance my big-picture vision with data-driven decision making- Moving to Detroit taught me that history paved the path to today with both lessons and landmines, both of which bear acknowledging in every project.I bring these mindsets to bear in my work, keeping in mind that relationships lead and results follow. I’m interested in connecting here with anyone working to expand economic opportunity with a place-based lens.
