ABOUT HANNAH SCHMIDT

I am a licensed registered nurse as of September 2024. I graduated from the accelerated BSN program at University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in August 2024. My first undergraduate degree was a BS in Health Sciences at Chapman University in 2019. My previous work experience included serving as the first scribe in the pediatric oncology department at Stanford Children\'s. I was later promoted to Chief Scribe where I oversaw all of the Stanford Children\'s scribe programs. It was through these positions that I learned how to effectively communicate with medical staff, patients, and their families in a kind, thoughtful, and professional manner. I learned what \"treating others with kindness\" truly meant - taking care and having empathy for another\'s physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and financial well-being. During my time at Chapman, I took part in different opportunities that fueled my enthusiasm to pursue a job in the medical field. I was a Medical Aide for a client in need of 24-hour care where I learned the benefits of providing a safe and caring environment in addition to knowledge of some medical practices. While on a medical mission in the Philippines through Sustainable Asia through Medicine and Education, I learned about various medical techniques and practices in a new and different country and provided free health care services to impoverished people living in Manila. Additionally, during my time as Vice President of New Member Development for Alpha Gamma Delta, I learned the importance of education and integration of new members into our chapter to create a sense of community. Furthermore, I hope that someday I can apply this these skills to educate my patients about their medical conditions in order to provide them the opportunity to make clear and thorough decisions about treatment options in addition to making them feel comforted and cared for.Through my volunteer experience with Girl Scouts and working at American Girl, I have found a love for working with children. As a Leader at Diamond Crest Day Camp, I have been able to teach the young girls life skills such as kindness, respect, and how to care for their fellow scouts. At American Girl I learned how to balance a fun work environment while maintaining a professional disposition. In return the children I have worked with have taught me the importance of being a strong leader, patience, and having a kind bedside manner. Until I am able to care for patients as a nurse at the bedside, I aspire to make those around me feel their best in a creative, caring, and kind way.
