Periods for Peace started out as a grassroots summer project in Freetown, Sierra Leone, and is now in the initial stages of being established as a nonprofit organization. It promotes health equity through innovative, story-based, comprehensive reproductive health education and youth empowerment in disadvantaged communities. We organized a summer camp with UN Foundation Girl Up Vine Club Sierra Leone, for girls ages 11-17 as well as a workshop series in rural areas. The Davis Projects for Peace was the primary funding source for our project that provides undergraduate students to implement grassroots projects that promote peace and address the root causes of conflict. In addition to the money from the Davis Foundation, we received a grant from the Office of Inclusion, Diversity, and Equal Opportunity at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU). This grant is aimed at supporting CWRU student projects aimed at improving diversity and inclusion efforts. In 2019, the project was carried out at a bilingual school in Dakar, Senegal with boys & girls. Most recently, Periods for Peace is carried out annually at a summer camp in Cleveland, OH for socioeconomically disadvantaged youth.
