About Haneul Sky Cho

My name is Haneul (Sky), and I’m an international student originally from Korea, raised in Ukraine since the age of four. I bring a multicultural perspective shaped by my background and life experiences.I’m currently a Research Technician at Johns Hopkins University, working at the intersection of stem cell biology and computational genomics to study limb development. I study iPSC differentiation into lateral plate mesoderm using lineage tracing and marker-based analyses, while optimizing protocols toward limb-bud mesenchyme. I also integrate single-cell and spatial transcriptomics to evaluate how well limb explant models recapitulate in vivo knee development, including cell population classification and temporal gene program analysis. In addition, I support lab operations and mouse colony management.I graduated from Mount Holyoke College with a degree in Neuroscience and Computer Science. During my time there, I worked as a research assistant in the Colodner Lab, studying the tracheal system of Drosophila melanogaster. My multicultural upbringing had a significant influence on my interest in medical research. Using my unique perspectives relating to my origin, perseverance, and leadership skills, I aspire to become a scientist capable of offering medical aid to individuals like those dear to me in Ukraine. In the future, I desire to engage in hands-on medical research and work to contribute to create more accessible medical treatments through integrating neuroscience, cell biology research with computational analysis tools!
