About Han Ding
As a Ph.D. candidate at Carnegie Mellon University specializing in climate modeling and atmospheric science, I bridge the gap between high-performance computing, numerical simulation, and real-world climate impact. My research focuses on climate model development(both global model and high-resolution regional model) with an emphasis on high-performance computing (HPC) and global evaluation(using Satellite/flight campaign/ground observation data). I work with the UKESM Unified Model (UM)(from Met Office), developing its Fortran source code to process multi-dimensional, CPU-intensive datasets efficiently. My work focuses on reducing uncertainties in climate microphysics and advancing our understanding of complex atmospheric interactions, particularly in new particle formation (NPF) and radiative forcing. Beyond research, I’m passionate about leveraging high-performance computing (HPC) and large-scale data analysis to address sustainability challenges. Previously, I worked as a weather forecaster, applying numerical weather modeling and radar data to operational decision-making. I\'m eager for innovative, data-driven solutions that create real-world impact for all.
