About Hammad Khan

Currently, I serve dual roles as an Assistant Attorney General within the Office of the Kentucky Attorney General’s Special Prosecutions Unit, Violent Crime Reduction Team and as a Special Assistant United States Attorney in the US Attorney’s for the Western District of Kentucky. A critical aspect of these roles involves prosecuting non-fatal gun cases that afflict communities throughout Jefferson County, Kentucky. Moreover, I am dedicated to fostering and sustaining positive relationships within communities that are significantly impacted by gun violence, as part of a broader strategy to address this pressing issue.Previously, I served as an Assistant County Attorney and Criminal Unit Chief in the Office of the Jefferson County Attorney. My practice encompassed a diverse range of legal matters, from prosecuting traffic offenses in Jefferson County District Court to felony child support cases in Jefferson County Circuit Court. Before launching my career as a prosecutor, I worked as a staff attorney at the Legal Aid Society within the Personal Safety Unit. In this capacity, I provided legal representation to low-income survivors of interpersonal violence, sexual assault, and stalking. Additionally, I took on the responsibility of recruiting and training volunteer attorneys to extend these vital legal services to clients across a 15-county area.My journey in law began as the Wyatt, Tarrant & Combs Fellow at Legal Aid, where I concentrated on family law with a particular emphasis on contested divorces involving domestic violence dynamics.I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Communication from the University of Kentucky and graduated magna cum laude from Michigan State University College of Law in 2013. During my time in law school, I actively engaged in various clinical programs that enriched my legal education and practical experience.Twenty-five years ago, I lawfully immigrated to the United States from Pakistan with aspirations of becoming an attorney. Throughout my career, I have cultivated a wealth of experience in legal practice through rigorous study, mentorship from seasoned attorneys, and active participation in pro bono initiatives following law school.Every day, I strive to make a positive impact through my work. I remain committed to deepening my understanding of legal intricacies, serving my community diligently, and evolving as a leader.
