About Hamid Zadeh

I am a creative technical professional with a diverse, cross-functional background and deep expertise in propulsion electric motors and magnetic bearings. My core strengths include emachine conceptual design, multi-physics 2-way coupling electromagnetic 2D & 3D FEA direct modeling with thermal and structural modules, NVH analysis, and transient magnetic circuit analysis. Hands-on knowledge of lowering core losses via loss separation between eddy current losses, interlaminar insulation, hysteresis losses and stacking factor. My specialized skills encompass materials like Hiperco 50 and 50 primum plus, segmented thin-gauge electrical steel rotor lamination like Arnon 7, bonded and non-bonded stator/rotor laminated stack, Lamination stacking factor vs surface coating, heat treatment and annealing, rectangular magnet wire for maximizing copper fill factor, as well as rare earth permanent magnets design. I have worked across industries such as defense, marine, aerospace, robotics, and oil & gas. As a Subject Matter Expert (SME), I am committed to mentoring and training junior engineers, sharing my expertise to support their professional growth.Core Competencies• Electromagnetic (EM) FEA • Parametric 2D/3D Direct Modeling• eMachine EM Circuit Optimization • Time Step Loss Calculation• Multi-physics Workbench • Dynamometer Testing • Rotor-Bearing Dynamics • Statistical Analysis • Structural & thermal analysis• Cross-functional Devel\'t • Design for Manuf\'g • NVH Problem Solving skills• Variable Frequency Drives • RTCA DO-160 standard

Experience

  1. Staff Design Engineer, Electric Machines

    Northrop Grumman

Feb 2020 — Present · Sunnyvale, CA, US

Designed, prototyped, and tested active magnetic bearings as a key component of submarine turbine generator sets for naval nuclear propulsion programs.Collaborated with motor suppliers and cross-functional teams to advance state-of-the-art marine propulsion motor technologies. Utilized ANSYS direct modeler for preparing and building parametric models for sensitivity and optimization studies.Constructed prototypes that successfully validated electromagnetic finite element analysis (EM FEA) model predictions, achieving outstanding alignment between simulations and real-world performance.
