My key accountabilities include: • Manage a team of engineers, analysts, consultants, and subject matter experts to achieve team objectives and tasks. • Develop and assess potential short, mid, and long-term technical and engineering solutions to enhance Powerex’s transmission access requirements to facilitate connection to the markets and its customer base. • Lead interregional transmission access analysis in both the operation and planning horizons across the WECC footprint, including working with other utilities and planning organizations. • Research and understand potential innovative and broad-scope wire/non-wire solutions for transmission access issues as alternatives to direct infrastructure options. • Evaluate the quality-of-service products, such as frequency response, and initiate necessary actions to enhance performance by working with different teams and business groups at BC Hydro and Powerex. • Participate in WECC committees and Taskforces to assess and modify planning and operational guidelines and criteria.

ABOUT HAMID ATIGHECHI
I joined Powerex early in 2021 as the Senior Manager of the Inter-Utility Coordination and Transmission Planning team. In this role, my main focus is on identifying existing or future transmission access issues in the markets that Powerex is trading (the entire WECC area) and trying to resolve them by collaborating with other utilities and stakeholders. Prior to Powerex, I was the head of the EV Infrastructure group at Powertech Labs, BC Hydro’s R&D and consulting subsidiary. I began my engineering career with BC Hydro in 2013 in BC Hydro’s Transmission Planning Department. I graduated in 2013 with a Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia, majoring in Power Systems with a special focus on modeling and stability of the grid. I am a Senior Member of I hold a Certificate in Business Management from Simon Fraser University (SFU) and am registered as a Professional Engineer (PEng) in BC and a Certified Project Management Professional (PMP).
