About Hallie Phillips

Before I was ever on a volleyball team, I chose to become a setter because it was “the hardest” skill to learn. As I started playing competitively, I quickly learned that the role of a setter was to quarterback their team. I didn’t know it then, but in reflection, the strategic decision-making involved with effectively running an offense was right up my alley. It didn’t take the most athletic person to be an effective setter, but someone who understood the intricacies of the game. That same strategic thinking has carried over in my professional career. Although I grew up surrounded by sports as an avid Tar Heel and playing volleyball, my interest in working in the sports industry was less so focused on the players and sport product and rather the entire multifaceted and innovative ecosystem within and created by sport. Through strategic partnerships, authentic storytelling, and so much more, sport is a conduit for social change and bringing people together. That aspect of the industry is what excites me most about being a part of it professionally.
