About Haley Dees

Engineer by training, leader by trade. My passion for research and learning drives me to enable innovators to do what they do best: explore and innovate. As Project Manager of the KSU Design, Build, Fly Team, I led a comprehensive fundraising campaign to secure funding and materials for the team for years to come. As a co-founding member and Events Coordinator of KSU\'s chapter of SWE, I have cultivated a supportive community of future engineers across the University. As a coach and former participant in the Lockheed Martin Ethics in Engineering Case Study Competition, I prepared teams by connecting them with industry professionals, case studies, and articles to help better understand the case. As an incoming MSc student in Science Communication and Public Engagement at the University of Edinburgh and an Aerospace Engineering graduate, I am no stranger to the value of interdisciplinary thinking and learning. I hope to learn from both classroom and extracurricular experiences, and turn these lessons into effective professional practices. I am a proud recipient of the 2023 Golden Flash Award, and a 2024 G.E.A.R. award for my work with the KSU Board of Trustees and the Women in Engineering Club\'s Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day Event. During my two year term as student trustee, I voiced the opinion of the undergraduate student body on Board matters, represented Kent State at events with legislators and Boards from across the country, and led the successful planning and execution of the 2024 Statewide Student Trustees Summit. I am an accomplished communicator, as evident by my presentation and outreach experience. My work studying the aerodynamic impact of winglet shapes has allowed me to present at Kent State University, WE Local Detroit hosted by the Society for Women Engineers in February 2023, and AEROFORUM23 in San Diego, California in December 2023. Through my work at GIE Media and the College of Aeronautics and Engineering, I have led and contributed to the authoring and editing of articles intended for both print and web-based publication. I have contributed to social media content creation and created a social media strategy for the continued growth and retention of engagement with 25 accounts on 6 platforms.
