I build captive insurance programs for companies that pay at least 1 million dollars annually for insurance.Our strategies help solve common problems such as when companies don’t file many claims yet get large rate increases. Some clients couldn’t find affordable coverage for a specific risk (like property or professional liability) while others were in a very risky business (such as trucking, energy, or manufacturing). Other clients had a great risk management program yet didn’t think the insurer considered this as part of the renewal process. My process, which is outlined in my book Designing a Risk Financing Program, is detailed. I review all major company documents and then interview key employees to obtain additional information about the company\'s risk exposures. This is assembled into a final report which outlines the strengths and weaknesses of the company\'s risk management, risk exposures, and opportunities for self-funding. It takes 2-4 months.
