My introduction to crisis management came on December 20, 1989, when I started as general counsel for AFS Intercultural Programs, when U.S. troops landed in Panama. AFS had 40 students en route to a retreat when the staff lost contact with them at the Panama airport. Part of my job is to manage crises which I do that with a strong risk management team who have worked at AFS for almost a century. Together, we have developed a robust risk and crisis management program, that we evaluate, refine, update and enhance after tackling each crisis.We relied on this during the pandemic when we had to evacuate over young people from almost 100 countries.I have over thirty years of experience in Risk and Crisis Management and Business Strategy as an attorney working in international business, employment, and labor law. This includes negotiating contracts, advising management and other stakeholders regarding government policy and program development, and contract analysis, administration and interpretation for all phases of corporate law.
