ABOUT HAFIZ NADERI

I am an Academic Clinical Lecturer in Cardiology at Queen Mary University of London and Barts Heart Centre, funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR). My clinical and research interests focus on hypertension, cardiac imaging, and the application of artificial intelligence to improve early detection and risk stratification in cardiovascular disease.Clinically, I am sub-specialising in cardiovascular imaging. In 2020, I completed a two-year fellowship at Hammersmith Hospital in advanced echocardiography, gaining British Society of Echocardiography accreditation in adult transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography. I also undertook a one-year Cardiac CT fellowship at St Thomas’ Hospital. I am currently training in Cardiac MRI at Barts Heart Centre. These experiences have provided me with a strong foundation in cardiac imaging.I was awarded my PhD in Cardiovascular Medicine in 2024 for the thesis “Predicting hypertension-mediated subclinical left ventricular hypertrophy using machine learning techniques,” funded by the British Heart Foundation. I co-developed the research question and grant application, receiving advanced training in digital ECG signal processing and machine learning through collaborations with bioengineers at the University of Zaragoza, University of Oxford and University of Barcelona. This work received several awards, including the Young Investigator Award (2022) and Early Career Researcher Award (2024) from the British and Irish Hypertension Society, as well as the Alfred Thomas Corrie Prize at St Bartholomew’s Hospital.I contribute to national and international hypertension research through committee roles in both the British and Irish Hypertension Society and the European Society of Hypertension.Alongside my academic work, I am passionate about patient and public engagement. I created the YouTube channel “The Heart Doctor” to help raise public awareness of heart disease and make cardiovascular science accessible to a wider audience (youtube.com/c/TheHeartDoctor).
