ABOUT HADIYA

Chasing excellency is a common motivator for researchers and scientists, but excellency is subjective. For me, to be a great scientist is to also be a great member of society: to actively contribute to improving society, peoples’ lives, and to always be identifying ways to empower and mentor the next generation of women and minorities in science. My master’s degree involved working in a molecular beam epitaxy lab growing semiconductor materials and characterizing their interfacial behaviour using X-rays from a synchrotron source. This valuable experience has led to me to a position at CBN Nano, where I currently work as an associate research scientist investigating surface phenomena with ultra high vacuum and cryogenic instruments. At CBN Nano I have the pleasure of working in a team of the brightest scientific minds in Ottawa aligned to a singular goal: improving technology that will make a difference to peoples’ lives. I am proficient in UHV surface science, including but not limited to scanning tunneling microscopy, molecular beam epitaxy, and x-Ray diffraction. I enjoy continuous self-improvement, and put consistent effort to gain expertise in what I do, but also in new-to-me skills such as Project Management. Stagnancy is not a welcome habit, and so aside from constantly improving my skills at work, you will often find me occupying my time with new skills or hobbies to add a little sparkle to my soul.
