About Gwynne Williams
A college encounter with a Federal Reserve Bank President set the stage for my +15 year career with the US Central Bank and an opportunity to supervise institutions and organizations of all sizes and complexities. As a computer science major, my future was destined for software engineering, but the idea of being behind a computer all day was hard to stomach for someone who enjoys travel, the outdoors, and building relationships both social and professional. Progressive roles in technology, financial stability, and operational and enterprise risk management complemented my educational background and helped set me apart with a skill set as unique inside as outside the Federal Reserve System. While I spent a large part of my career at the Federal Reserve, no two years looked the same and every one of them offered me new challenges and opportunities to grow. Leading a national team focused on continued development of supervisory staff, I used my background to support policy implementation, emerging risk awareness, and operational risk education for supervisors at the Federal Reserve. While my responsibilities grew beyond operational and IT risk education, this continued to be an area of passion for me and one that increased in relevance. One outlet for this passion was through international channels, where I had the opportunity to design, build, and teach a course on cybersecurity and technology risk supervision to central banking regulators around the world and participated in workgroups focused on building global consistency in supervisory practices. In 2019, I was able to take my years of regulatory experience to the private sector and joined an ever-intriguing Capital One. After navigating Regulatory Relations for the 2019 Cyber Event and early days of COVID-19, I led our Technology Audit program for 2 years. Today, I am applying my experience to the first line, serving as the Chief Risk Officer for our Credit Card Division. Capital One has an incredible passion for innovation and a focus on harnessing technology to drive its innovation in financial services, and I am grateful to now be using my experiences to help \'Change Banking for Good\'.
