ABOUT GUS GIANNAKOULIAS

With over 29 years of experience as a police detective, I am passionate about solving complex and challenging cases that bring justice and closure to the victims and their families. As a Senior Police Detective at the DC Metropolitan Police Department, I am assigned to the Major Case/Cold Case Squad in the Homicide Branch, where I apply my skills to investigate and prosecute high-profile and unsolved murders. Previously, I have received multiple commendations and awards for my exemplary performance and dedication to the department and the community. I am committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and ethics in my work, and to collaborating with my colleagues, partners, and stakeholders to ensure public safety and trust.I served as MPD investigative representative for multi-agency task force made up of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies collaborating as one team to address violent crime plaguing urban communities. Deputized as Special Federal Officer by the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and as Special Deputy United States Marshal by the United States Marshal Service. Maintained Top Secret security clearance.• Pursued violent gang members through sustained, proactive, coordinated investigations to obtain prosecutions on violations such as racketeering, drug conspiracy, and firearms violations. • Fostered and maintained cooperation and communication among federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, increasing productivity and avoiding duplication of investigative efforts.• Applied Enterprise Theory of Investigation (ETI), combining short-term, street-level enforcement activity with such sophisticated techniques as consensual monitoring, financial analysis, and Title wire intercept investigations using ETI to root out and prosecute entire gangs. • Developed evidence from information obtained from cooperating witnesses, controlled purchases, and search warrants to obtain Title wiretaps.• Served as Co-case agent in investigation of two consecutive long-term, gang-related enterprises, which resulted in successful prosecutions in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, including first death penalty prosecution in the District of Columbia in over 30 years. • Other convictions from investigations included Racketeering and Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) statute, racketeering conspiracy, maintaining a continuing criminal enterprise (CCE), and narcotics violations.
