ABOUT GURKAN OZTURAN
Gürkan Özturan is the Media Freedom Monitoring Officer as part of the Media Freedom Rapid Response at the European Centre for Press and Media Freedom. He is the former executive manager of rights-focused independent grassroots journalism platform dokuz8news. He was trained in the field of European Studies as a researcher on radicalisation and polarisation during his two masters degrees at Centre International de Formation Europeenne and Istanbul Bilgi University while receiving his bachelors degree from Boğaziçi University from the department of Western Languages and Literatures. Gürkan Özturan appears on international media as a commentator on Turkey, digital rights and freedom of expression. He offers lectures in \"Aesthetics of Propaganda\",\"Citizen Journalism and New Media Practices\" and also works as Turkey Rapporteur for Freedom House\'s Freedom on the Net and APC\'s Global Information Society Watch reports. He has served as a board member for various anti-racism and human rights NGOs and social movements, currently, he is a board member for Turkey-European Foundation, Media Research Association, and Red Ribbon Istanbul.
