Experience
Drilling Engineer
Nov 2016 — Present · Houston, TX, US
Plan, drill and cement back test wells, perform BHA deisgn and optimize/execute company downhole/surface tools testing, including Motor, MWD, Rotary Steerable, MPD, Vibration, NOVOS drilling automation, and Drilling Optimization on a modern test rig. Gary played a key role as Project Drilling Engineer for NOV\'s initiative to drill the 11,500-ft deep geothermal research well at its Springett Technology Center (STC). He assisted in drilling, completing, and flow-testing what was, at the time, the deepest geothermal well in North America completed with vacuum-insulated tubing (VIT). During the early pandemic, he deepened his expertise by fast-tracking his knowledge of wellbore heat transfer modeling and thermodynamics.Leveraging NOV\'s leading role in global deep geothermal projects, Gary is positioned to bring NOV\'s latest technologies—such as fit-for-purpose PDC bit design, advanced wellbore cooling systems (insulated drill pipe and mud chillers), high-temperature liner hangers, and coiled tubing drilling—to the forefront, continuously pushing the limits of geothermal drilling technology.
